Malka Spigel - Every Day Is Like the First Day

Malka Spigel releases her first solo album for 14 years on Sept 03 2012. The album was made by Malka & Colin Newman during 2011 and early 2012 featuring a well heeled and diverse set of guests ranging from Alexander Balanescu to Johnny Marr (see the full list and read the press release at mayanewman.com). You can check out one of the album tracks "See It Sideways" at swimhq's soundcloud.

The album will be available in 3 flavours, all priced the same - the plain "vanilla" digi-packed one, the special edition version with a 28 page booklet containing album lyrics and Malka images, and the super special mail order only version which also includes a small original signed print of one of Malka's images. Each of the 100 images is different. The first 200 orders will secure the booklet version and of those the first 100 will get the super special version. Pre-sales start today from Malka's shop at malkaspigel.greedbag.com. For those that can't wait, the single of "See It Sideways" is available today in digital format from Malka's shop and the usual digital stores.

Githead Newsletter

Here is the news from the Githead newsletter, also released today.

Minimal - Max Franken

Early in the year Max took part in the 2012 version of the occasional Minimal Compact re-union, on this occasion in honour of his birthday. Minimal (which also has Malka on bass and this time also featured Colin as a guest) played a series of very    successful shows in Tel Aviv & Jerusalem to an audience in excess of 5000. While Minimal is very much an occasional activity there is one more show in 2012 on the 22nd September at the Festival 4 Cultures in Lodz, Poland.

You might like to catch up with Max on his facebook.

Robin Rimbaud - A Busy Year

It's been an exceptionally busy year for Robin with a host of projects and recordings that have reached global audiences he never thought quite imaginable before. To begin the year he scored the sound for Nike’s innovative Hyperfuse collection, the Rugby World Cup global promotional campaign in New Zealand, Chanel’s new Fall-Winter 2012 collection in Paris and the launch of the new Mercedes Benz A Class car in Geneva. In May this year his ambitious audiovisual spectacle with Heritage Orchestra based around the music of Joy Division premiered in The Brighton Festival, and in June, Canta Danst, a new transmedia production with handicapped cars and ballet dancers, in Amsterdam. He recently composed the score for The Big Dance in Trafalgar Square for 1000 dancers and the IOC Opening Olympic Ceremony at the Royal Opera House for The British Queen in London. Robin’s work is also the solitary sound commission at the British Business Embassy in London for the summer of 2012 representing the finest of British design and innovation. Any American readers visiting the cinema over the next year will be experiencing his work for Sprint telephones as he designed all the sound for this promotion that plays out to 200 million viewers a month, that's 2.5 billion in the next year.

Colin Newman - In The Studio!

In spite of 2011 being Wire's busiest year of touring since 1978 Colin has been spending an awful lot of time in the studio over the last year. Of course there was the work to complete Malka's album but since May this year he has been at work on the next Wire project. Expect an announcement pertaining to that and other matters of interest through the usual channels in October. Meanwhile Wire is playing ATP this November / December.

Colin does have a mailing list on colinewman.com although there have never been any actual mailings :) A far safer bet is the pinkflag mailing list which you can sign up to on pinkflag.com.

and finally - Githead!!!

If you were wondering if there is any Githead news, well there actually is! Soon Githead will be heading into the studio to begin work on their 4th album. We have booked the famous Rockfield Studio, where in fact Wire recorded earlier this year, so that we can play as a band. There is no schedule as yet for when the album might be completed but Colin is going to be busy in the studio again next year!

In rather stranger news we have discovered that Pop Diva Lady Gaga, obviously a fine student of all things Git, has decided to half inch our sophomore album title ART POP for her own new opus. Of course it remains a great title although perhaps a little diminished by association...

Swim-hq revamp

In keeping with the fact that during the last 10 years, with the exception of Malka's upcoming album, swim ~ has only released records by Githead - the website at swimhq.com has been updated to a more blog like look with the most recent releases featured and giving links to all the relevant band pages & mailing list sign ups. Why not give it a like on facebook? You can at the bottm of the page.

This mailing is and always will be occasional. We don't like spam any more than you do. If you want to follow Malka, Colin & Githead on a more regular basis check out the various facebook, twitter, youtube & soundcloud pages by following the links below.
